Catacombs Under Ambel

The Abbey ⛪︎ was built on a desert planet 🪐 called Ambel and acts as a gateway world to other universes. The Abbey monks 🧙‍♂️ maintain portals to other worlds as part of their duties to defend the light of the crystals 💎 from the Nasts: dark creatures 😈 that pour from cracks in reality ⚡️.

Deep underneath the Abbey ⛪︎, in the thousands-of-years old catacombs, you play as the next caretaker who will maintain the magical 🔮 machinery that keeps the Abbey ⛪︎ infrastructure working above ground. Explore the catacomb corridors and chambers as you hunt for the power crystals 💎 that the resident bees 🐝 have unplugged from the machines when the previous caretaker retired.

Catacombs Under Ambel is a short pixel puzzle game set in an ancient abbey ⛪︎ on a desert 🌵 planet. It was designed to look like Extraneum, Xibalba, and Delver, while adding a vertical component to the level design. The gameplay was inspired by Infra because we wanted our first substantial game to not be all about combat ⚔️ and we wanted the setting to provide a rich backstory to the puzzles 🧩.

🧑‍💻 Development started in 2022 and went off and on for just over 2 years and we are proud of what we were able to accomplish as an indie dev and artist team. We hope you enjoy our work and please leave a comment if you liked the game!
